Layla Ahmed

My life has always been connected to Midwifery on some level. I was born into the Midwifery pilot project in Hamilton Ontario, and attended a school where many midwives sent their children. When my youngest brother was born at home, I knew that this is exactly what I wanted to do!

Before I applying to the Midwifery program I worked with children with autism. Once in Midwifery I had the privilege of working with a diverse group of women in a variety of cities. In particular I worked with refugee women and teen mothers.

I graduated from McMaster with a Bachelors of Health Sciences specializing in Midwifery in 2010 and worked in London ON for 4 years. I am currently in the process of completing my lactation consultant certification.

I reluctantly followed my husband to Edmonton after the birth of our first child and haven’t looked back since! I love Edmonton and am thrilled to have the opportunity to work as a midwife again.

I am passionate about providing personalized, woman centred care, informed choice, and simply being a witness to such a transformative journey in a woman’s life.

Outside of being midwife, I am the wife of a very patient husband, (you have no choice when you are married to a midwife!!), I am the mother of 2 amazing daughters, I love preparing nourishing food, learning about holistic nutrition, being outdoors, horseback riding and spending time with my horse.
