Krista Hamblin

Midwifery became my career of choice while I was completing my Honours degree in Sociology. I watched a thought provoking documentary during a reproductive justice class and, from that point on, I became academically and otherwise obsessed with current birthing practices. I wrote many papers on the topic. Eventually I graduated and was faced with a choice: do I spend my time researching health systems and practices to advocate for positive change, or do I devote my passion and time to working with families at a personal level to support positive pregnancy and birth experiences? I wholeheartedly chose the latter. I am so humbled by the powerful pregnant and birthing people and families that I work with and I feel so grateful to get to be a part of the journeys.

My background is in social services and rehabilitation work and I bring my experiences with me to practice. My goal in working with clients is to nurture the choices made during pregnancy, birth, and the newborn/postpartum period. I provide as much information as I can to clients so that each choice they make is grounded in their personal preferences, the research regarding the topic, and the community standards in place locally.
